Ragi Ladoo
Nutritious finger millet balls bound with jaggery and ghee — a traditional Tamil Nadu sweet packed with calcium, iron and natural energy. Made for Diwali and new mothers alike.
Ingredients
| Sree Kumaran Ragi Flakes, ground to fine powder | 1 cup |
| Jaggery powder | ½ cup |
| Ghee, warm | 3 tbsp |
| Cardamom, dry ginger powder | ¼ tsp each |
Method
- Grind ragi flakes to a fine powder in a mixie. Mix with jaggery powder, cardamom and dry ginger.
- Add warm ghee gradually, mixing until the mixture holds when pressed between palms.
- Roll into firm balls while the ghee is still warm. Cool completely before storing. Keeps for a week.
Ragi ladoo with dry ginger was the traditional postpartum food for new mothers in Tamil Nadu — the combination of ragi calcium, jaggery iron and ghee fat supports recovery. Still the most sensible tradition.
