Godhumai Upma

Savory wheat flake upma, ready in 15 minutes — nutty, filling, and flavoured with South Indian tempering. A wholesome weekday breakfast with real grain goodness.

Ingredients

Sree Kumaran Roasted Wheat Flakes 1 cup
Oil or ghee 2 tbsp
Mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves 1 tsp each
Onion, chopped; green chillies 1 each
Hot water 1½ cups
Salt, lemon juice to taste

Method

  1. Heat oil. Temper mustard seeds, urad dal and curry leaves until golden. Add onion and green chilli, cook until soft.
  2. Add wheat flakes and stir for 2 minutes to coat in the tempering.
  3. Pour hot water and salt. Stir well, cover and cook on low for 5 minutes until water is absorbed.
  4. Finish with lemon juice. Serve hot with coconut chutney or pickle.

Because the wheat flakes are pre-roasted, this upma cooks in minutes and has a deeper, nuttier flavour than regular rava upma. Add mixed vegetables for a more complete meal.
